Indian Trail PondThe Indian Trail Water Quality Enhancement Project is located in the community of Sharpes at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 1 and Indian Trail Road. The project includes a 2-acre pond designed to treat runoff from a 69-acre drainage area near Fairglen Elementary School. The area in which the project is located was selected due to the high volume of runoff from urbanized areas, with little or no stormwater treatment. Runoff is discharged through a conveyance system along Indian Trail Rd. to the Indian River Lagoon. The detention pond is located on the southern side of Indian Trail Rd. and provides temporary storage of runoff prior to discharge. While the stormwater is stored in the pond, pollutants settle out and leave the discharge water cleaner. The project was coordinated with other improvements including piping of the ditch along Indian Trail Road, a deceleration lane to exit U.S. Hwy 1, a new pedestrian bridge over U.S. Hwy 1, and improvements at Fairglen Elementary School.
