Wickham Park Pond
Located at the corner of Parkway Dr. and Croton Rd. in Melbourne, the project consists of two wet detention ponds. A pedway around one lake invites walkers, bicyclists, roller bladers, etc. The project is part of the Upper Eau Gallie Stormwater Master Plan. The purpose of the project is to enhance the quality of stormwater runoff that outfalls to Horse Creek, and ultimately discharges to the Indian River Lagoon and provide flood control for Parkway Meadows, an upstream subdivision. This project constructed a 2.6-acre preteatment pond and 5.4-acre treatment pond that provides treatment of stormwater for approximately 580-acredrainage area that discharges into Horse Creek, then ultimately, into the Indian River Lagoon. The land was donated by the Brevard Parks and Recreation Department in exchange for a commitment by the Stormwater Program to provide funding for a walkway around the lake and three pavilions. As part of the programs public education program, high school students assisted in planting wetland plants along the pond shoreline, and educational kiosks were constructed at the lake. In addition to providing water quality treatment and flood control, the project offers passive recreational and educational opportunities for park visitors.
